From Yarn to Yarn – Steele @ DDW 2011

FROM YARN TO YARN is a project that reinvent design entrepreneurship. In the North-East of Italy many textile industries left a strong cultural and economic heritage in the territory. After the economic crisis most of these small companies had to close. The lighting collection of Steelè is a tribute to the capacity of reflecting new contemporary products. Accordingly, Steelè merges together local culture with new industrial process. An historical tool like the metallic yarn spool has illustrative value for the collection. The lamps are highlight the gritty elegance of the raw materials together with a reverse way of using LED light.
Giacomo Piovan (1987) is an Italian designer attending the second year of the Master in Social Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Giacomo is currently working at La Città Mobile on his thesis.
